Bilt Points: what they are worth and where they transfer
Bilt Points are a transferable currency in the same family as the bank programs, and the routes we have verified move at 1:1. What you can turn them into matters far more than how you earned them.

A transferable currency like any other
Whatever route brought points into your account, once they are there they behave like every other transferable currency on this site. They are not airline miles. They become miles when you transfer them, at a published ratio, and the transfer is one-way.
The routes we have verified are 1:1, which means the transfer step itself neither adds nor removes value. All of the variation in what you end up with comes from the destination program and the redemption you make.
Judging a balance
The reference value at the top of this page is an average across many real redemptions, not a rate you can demand. Use it to size up what a balance is roughly worth, then check any actual booking with the redemption value calculator, which will tell you what that specific redemption is really doing.
The gap between those two numbers is usually the whole story. An average can look healthy while the redemption in front of you is poor, and no amount of averaging makes a particular booking better than its own arithmetic.
Before you commit
The order that works is always the same: pick the program you would book through, confirm your points can reach it, find the actual award seat on your actual dates, confirm the miles price and cash fees, and only then transfer.
We set this out in more detail in the primer - check award space first. It is the single most valuable habit for anyone holding a transferable currency, and it costs nothing but a few minutes.
A worked example
Suppose a one-way long-haul economy fare is $520, and a partner program will sell the same seat for 30,000 miles plus $38 in taxes.
($520.00 cash − $38.00 award fees) ÷ 30,000 points × 100 = 1.61 cents per point
A respectable result for an economy redemption. Worth noting how much of the work the fees do not do here - a $38 cash component barely dents it, whereas the $180 in our Amex example changes the conclusion entirely. Always enter the fees.
Against the current reference value of 2.11 cents, that is about 76% of typical - what we label below typical value. Those bands are our own editorial rules, not an industry standard.

Transfers are one-way Find and confirm the award seat first, inside the destination program. Only then move your points. Once they leave Bilt Points they are the destination program's currency, subject to its rules and its future devaluations.
Check the minimum and the increment before you commit to an amount - the number you wanted may not be a valid transfer. And remember that transfers are not always instant, so never transfer against a deadline assuming they will be. The transfer calculator flags all three.
Good and poor uses
Broad principles, not promises about specific inventory. What is actually available on your dates is something only the booking program can tell you.
Generally works well
- Redemptions where the destination program prices the award well below the cash fare.
- Long-haul flights, in any cabin, where cash fares are high.
- Topping up an existing mileage balance to reach a specific award, given the 1:1 ratio.
Usually poor value
- Speculative transfers made before a seat is confirmed.
- Short, cheap flights where cents per point will be poor regardless.
- Assuming the reference value is what any individual redemption will return.

Are Bilt transfers 1:1?
Every route we have verified is. Check the verification date beside each one, and confirm on the official page before transferring - ratios are dated facts, not permanent ones.
Do Bilt Points expire?
We have not verified the current expiry terms from an official source, so we will not state them here. Check the official page linked below.
Is a transfer reversible if I change my mind?
Assume not. Transfers out of a points program are generally final. That is why every result on this site tells you to confirm the award seat before moving anything.
How do I know if a redemption is any good?
Run it through the redemption value calculator. Enter the cash price you would genuinely have paid, the points required and the award fees, and it will show you the cents-per-point figure with the arithmetic behind it.
