Transferable points
Bank points are not airline miles yet. That single fact is the most useful thing to understand about them, and it changes how you should treat every balance you have.
What makes a currency “transferable”
American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Capital One Miles, Citi ThankYou Points, Bilt Points and Wells Fargo Rewards are all currencies issued by a bank, not by an airline. On their own they buy nothing. Their value comes from what they can turn into.
Each issuer has its own list of partner programs and its own ratio for each one. Most are 1:1, some are not, and the list changes - partners get added, and occasionally dropped with very little notice. That is why every ratio on this site carries the date a person last confirmed it.
Why this is usually an advantage
Holding bank points rather than airline miles means you have not committed yet. If an airline devalues its award chart tomorrow, points sitting in your bank account are unaffected in a way that miles already transferred are not. You keep the option.
The corollary is the rule that governs everything else on this site: do not transfer until you have found the seat. Transfers are effectively one-way. The moment you move points into an airline program you have given up the option, and you are subject to that program's rules and its future devaluations.
